Sport & Recreation Administration Accreditation

The BARA degree program provides a contemporary education focused on preparing students to become certified park and recreation professionals by providing opportunity to learn and utilize professional core competencies (programming, human resources, operations, and finance).  These competencies align with COAPRT standards (7.01, 7.02, 7.03).  The following are outcomes of the yearly assessment of learning objectives.

  • 93% of students achieved the minimum passing rate on the pre-internship competency examination (CPRP & COAPRT standards); exceeding the target success rate by 13%
  • 94% of students graduating from the program attended either the Mississippi Recreation an dPark Association conference or the National Recreation and Park Association conference earning at least .9 CEUs; exceeding the targeted rate by 14%.
  • 76% exceeded targeted passing rates related to professional competencies on the nature and scope/service delivery techniques (7.01 COAPRT).
  • 47% exceeded targeted passing rates related to professional competencies related to planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs (7.02 COAPRT).
  • 91% exceeded targeted passing rates related to professional competencies on risk management/legal issues, finance and human resource. management in parks, recreation, tourism and /or related professions (7.03 COAPRT).

The contemporary Recreation Administration degree program curriculum culminates in students applying the knowledge they have gained during a 400 hour, 10 week capstone internship.  After the internship students complete an exit survey where they rate the effectiveness of the education and service-learning experiences they received to prepare them for their internship (7.04 COAPRT).

  • 100% of graduating students agreed that the University of Mississippi CPRP 7 COAPRT-based curriculum effectively prepared them for internship responsibilities.
  • 70% of graduating student indicated that the service learning components prepared them for their internship experience.
  • 100% of graduating student indicated that their University of Mississippi Recreation Administration Advisors were helpful in guiding students toward a career-oriented internship.
  • 90% of students achieved or exceeded an overall rating of Excellent or Outstanding from their on-site internship supervisors.
  • All students obtained (100%) CPR and First Aid certification prior to the internship.
