Mississippi Osteoporosis Prevention Project (MOPP)

osteoporosis

The Mississippi Osteoporosis Prevention Project (MOPP) was founded in 2004. The overall mission of the project is to prevent osteoporosis through education, training, seminars, and screening. Most osteoporosis programs target people over the age of 50. Poor bone health leads to osteoporosis and an increased risk for fracture later in life. Peak bone mass, which is one of the most important determinants of developing osteoporosis, is accrued largely by the age of 18. Therefore, actions to maximize peak bone mass need to be taken during childhood.
